Your guide to events and resources around Curtis Community Day, Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

Social justice struggles globally

Black Lives Matter protests outside the U.S.:

Oppressed people struggle for diversity, equity, justice and inclusion all over the world--for indigenous rights, racial and ethnic equality, environmental justice, disability rights, gender justice, LGBTQ equity, etc. Try searching library databases for more information on identity, community and place all over the world. See the box to the left for more.

Library databases

Search library databases to learn more about place, identity and community. Here's a good strategy to try on any of these databases:

  • Use words like AND to refine your search and quotation marks to search for a specific phrase.
    • Example: "social justice" AND Argentina
    • This will list articles with both the phrase "social justice" and the word "Argentina" appearing in them
    • Some databases allow you to refine your search, usually using "facets" (different categories, often on the left side of the list)
  • Browse the article titles for relevant ones that catch your eye
  • Select a few to read and learn more!

You can also see lists organized by subject. In Credo Reference, try browsing their list of topics, such as community. Or try searching for a place, like Philadelphia.
